Volunteering

You don’t have to be an adventurer like Bear Grylls to get involved with Scouting. Do you have first aid knowledge? Are you good with numbers? Handy in the kitchen? Or are you a DIY whizz? We all have useful skills and you can volunteer and help in many ways.

Volunteering with us is easy, fun and flexible – how much time you give is completely up to you. Whether you help out once a fortnight, month or term or just at special events or camps, there is bound to be a role you can play, and no matter how you get involved, we’ll make sure you’re properly trained and supported.

As well as gaining externally recognised skills and having a brilliant time, Scouting also offers the chance to build on personal skills, like teamwork, confidence and leadership. A study found that over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives.

Group Lead Volunteer

Would you like to lead the Group?

Ollie has recently stepped down as our Group Lead Volunteer after over 5 years in this role along, due to changing work commitments its not possible to continue. We are pleased he is staying within the Group as a Trustee. This means a role has opened up which needs to be filled, if you enjoy Scouting but cant attend in person every week and have a skill with managing teams this could be the role for you. A GLV manages the volunteering teams across the Group ensuring all needs are met and the Group run smoothly with training requirements. This role is supported by our Group Support member and will work with our Trustee board to ensure the Group stays successful and safe.

Assistant Section leader needed

Hythe Sea Scout Group are an extremely successful group based on Shore Road where we have our beachfront HQ. We are looking for enthusiastic people to join our leadership team. There is an immediate vacancy to join as an assistant leader/helper. There is no need for any prior experience and training for the role as this will be provided. The role includes supervising the young people during activities, helping to plan their programme and showing them how to work as a team. You don't need to be Bear Grylls or a secondary school teacher (although both would be ideal), just a reasonably sensible adult who can guide the you people in their programme. If you think you could give back to the local community and want to find out more please get in touch. Hello@Hytheseascouts.org.uk
