Meet on Tuesdays (19:30 – 21:30)

With the support, direction and guidance of Unit leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions; adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and off shore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all.

Explorers also have the opportunity to be a part of The Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme which develops their leadership skills and sense of responsibility, by helping to run meetings for younger sections.

Annual sailing adventure with TSYT

Every February Hythe Sea Scouts team up with Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT) to offer 40 Scouts and Explorers (aged 12-17) a three-night voyage experience sailing onboard a world-famous 72ft Challenger yacht.
Working together as a team, the young people and two leaders join TSYT's professional team of four to form a crew of 16 on each of the charity's four yachts. Over the voyage they grow in confidence and self-esteem and see a significant improvement in their communication and leadership skills. Outcomes include achievement of their RYA Start Yachting qualification, a handful of Scout badges and a crew assessment form for their CV.
