Welcome from our GSL

Welcome to Hythe Sea scouts. I am incredibly honoured to lead Hythe as Group Scout Leader (GSL) and will be your line manager in scouting. I have been involved in the group for many years since starting as a youth member. You are joining a very special group, 1 of only 105 in the world to be Admiralty Recognised meaning we proudly wear the admiralty anchor badge on our uniforms. You also join a group which has grown considerably in the last 5 years, opening two new sections and now supporting over 110 young people and over 45 adult members. I look forward to getting to know you and thank you for volunteering to support the group. Your journey will hopefully be fantastic, fun and you will no doubt have a positive effect on numerous young members in the group. As you start your role there is a lot to take in, don’t worry, no -one expects you to be Bear Grylls overnight. The Hythe scout group website leader FAQs page  has a huge amount of information and links to the ‘getting started’ training you will need to do, this must be completed within your first 3 months. The UK Scout website also contains lots of good reading for those new to the movement. Due to the size of our group we run with two Assistant Group Scout Leaders. Rich Harvey supports the younger sections (Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs) and Graham Bateson looks after Scouts and Explorers. They will be your first port of call for any questions while you settle in. We also have Ben Walmsley who runs our boating sessions so if this is your thing then make sure you get in contact with him. Lastly if you are joining on the committee side the Chris Bench and Nick Howe are our joint Chairman and will no doubt take you under their wing. I hope you have a fantastic time volunteering with us and look forward to volunteering with you. Yours in Scouting, Ollie Lieutenant Commander Oliver Taylor-Wood Royal Navy (Ollie) Hythe Sea Scout Group Scout Leader GSL@hytheseascout.co.uk

Our admin is managed through OSM (Online Scout Manager) and keeps secure the personal details of leaders & young people, badges, programme, events, payments. Your Section Leader will add you to the section you’re supporting, for help/guidance in using OSM you can check out our FAQ page.

Our Boating team also have a section on OSM to allow for advanced planning of boating sessions, if you are able to support on the water please let one of the GSL team know.
