Meet on Thursdays (19:00 – 21:00)

Our Sea Scout Troop aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative. We offer them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and trips.

Scouts are encouraged to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, from community based work to planning games and activities for their meetings.

Joining

Our waiting list is currently closed, please check back later in the year to see if it’s open again.

Volunteering

Volunteering in Scouting is easy and flexible – how much time you give is completely up to you.

Our videos

Summer Boating

Our scout section runs boating throughout the warmer months from our own private beach on Shore road. We use a number of different craft including more traditional boats such as Bosuns, Wayfarers & Coypu rowing boats. We also have a fleet of more modern craft such as Laser Pico's, Toppers, Pyranha Kayaks and Canoes

30 and growing!

The scout section continues to grow and grow. We currently have 30 members within the troop and we are predicted to hit 40 by next year. Unfortunately this means our joining list is currently closed to anyone who is not already coming up from within the group or whose parents are not a uniformed leader or member of the committee.

Scout Leader

Graham Bateson

Graham was a member of Hythe during his younger year's and progressed through the Group to now come back as a Scout Leader. Outside of Scouting he is a Land surveyor and makes the outdoors his office. Enjoys teaching our current members the skills of scouting even though he can't fit in a kayak but we love him anyway!

Boat Maintenance

We have a lot of boating equipment at scouts which needs a lot of TLC, luckily this gives us the opportunity to teach the scouts about boat maintenance.

Skills for life

Our programme is designed to provide a wide range of different skills & activities. We offer both land & sea based training from knots, hiking and navigation, to swimming, kayaking, sailing and camping inland as well as on the waters edge.

HMS Bristol

At least once a year we stay on board the Royal Navy Warship HMS Bristol, using the Royal Navy's facility & vessels. Our Scouts show their skills to our instructors on the water with most who attend leaving with a RYA sailing qualification and staged Scout sailing badges.
